Erik Karlsson Vasa's Uprising refers to an uprising against Sweden initiated by Erik Karlsson Vasa and supporters of Jöns Bengtsson Oxenstierna
Background
editReason for the uprising
editThe exact reason for the uprising is mostly unknown. Some sources make Erik Karlsson Vasa out to be a knight eager for battle, who wanted to start a war for his own satisfaction. According to other sources, it was supporters of Jöns Bengtsson Oxenstierna who rose up again, after he had been deposed a few years prior. Other sources also point to a possible motive being that Karl Knutsson had caused anger to rise in the nobility after he forbade them to engage in piracy.[1]
Among those who defect to Erik Karlsson include: Erik Nilsson, Ivar Gren, Trotte Karlsson, David and Kristian Oxenstierna.[1]
