Free University of San Francisco
The Free University of San Francisco (FUSF) began with an organizing meeting on December 19, 2010.[1] Alan Kaufman gave opening remarks.[2] Over fifty people attended the first meeting.[3] The group plans a free "teach-in" for the weekend of February 5 and 6, 2011. Diane Di Prima plans to lecture on 19th Century Visionary Poetry. Matt Gonzalez plans to lecture on Aspects of Arrest Law, and Alan Kaufman plans to teach a class on Avant Garde Innovators Jack Kerouac, Thelonius Monk, and Jackson Pollock.[3]
Others in attendance at the first meeting included Local Hero Diamond Dave Whitaker[4], Berkeley University Bookstore founder Martin Holden, and Revolutionary Poets Brigade Chairman Bobby Coleman.[3]
FUSF will have no tuition, will pay no salaries, and will not accept monetary donations.[5] It does have a website[6] and a Facebook page.[7]
A second planning meeting was held on January 9, 2011[8], and a third organizing meeting is planned for January 16, 2011.[9]
