This has been inspired by WP:NAIJARS and a bit of 휴머.. Know what I mean?

This is a list of reliable Korean sources that can be used to make article submissions pass through the article creation wizard, stay on main-space without being tagged, and make a high quality article. I have seen articles on Popular Korean culture that have sources such as Naver blogs or K-pop fan sites that aren't suitable enough as an only source. The sources in the reliable tables are a great database that you can use to find articles on people/places/etc. Use the tables below as a reference tool, but not as a strict policy. Remember that articles need to be backed up with reliable secondary sources, not just primary.

Tips:

edit
  • Using Naver News [1] or a similar reliable news portal can be a great jumping point for recent news.
  • If you're looking for sources regarding North Korea, Yonhap (see below) is a prime source.

Disclaimer: The Newspapers in the sources below may have a political alignment and should be used with caution regarding related articles. Red lean conservative, while blue lean liberal. See: Chojoongdong

The Korean Holy Grail of Reliable Sources

edit

The Naver Knowledge Encyclopedia (네이버 지식백과) is THE Holy Grail of Korean sources. Not only is much of the content written by experts (Some content is taken from other sites like doosanpedia, so avoid those), but it also takes information from reliable publications and books as well. If your topic isn't in there, it's not notable. (exceptions apply)

edit

When you type K-pop news into google, websites such as Koreaboo, Allkpop, and Soompi come out. It may be tempting to go in and cite, but HOLD ON!

  • These sources aren't necessarily reliable. They are known to exaggerate facts and possibly distort the truth to get more clicks from innocent people like you.

You: So.. What do you want me to do?

  • Try looking on websites such as http://www.bntnews.co.uk/, http://www.starnnews.com/, or http://star.mk.co.kr/. You can also look in the tables above for any information about what you're trying to do. Many Korean news outlets have news about Kpop and Kdrama. For example: The Korea Herald has a Kpop Herald for Kpop. If you can't find anything chances are they aren't very notable.

You: But But its a XHSN[who?] album!!!...

  • All hope isn't lost. See the emphasis on very?

You: Hmm

You: Mmm.. Isn't that not reliable?

  • Yes and No. You should avoid Naver blogs and cafes that are written by ordinary people.
  • A few places to try on Naver are the Knowledge Dictionary (지식백과) https://terms.naver.com/ and NAVER news.

You: Alright.. But I still wanna use Soompi

  • You technically could, but it has to be backed up with other reliable sources. It serves as a reference amongst other Guardian sources. Understood?

You: I see what you did there Of course!
