Geser's stop' — is the spot on Shaman mountains located in front of the bridge over the Selenga river near Voznesenovka village and Dikiy island. It represents a monument to a pair of deer standing on a steep rock, a stone with ancient inscribtions, symbols and petroglyphs. There are also located several tethering posts and a small gazebo.
Appearance and legend
editA monument to a pair of deer appeared in 1986 right after opening of a bridge over the Selenga River. During the construction one of the rocks was broken and primitive rock carvings of a deer carrying a bright sun on its horns were found on the rubble. According to the legend, this particular spot of Shaman Mountains is considered as sacred, because mighty Geser, the character of mongol and buryat eposes, the Son of the Sky, who fought with evil spirits, used this place as his stop-point while resting. Thit is why there are located several tethering posts for his horses.
Activities
editGeser's stop has a lot of sheer cliffs, which serv as training field for professional alpinists. Mountain biking trails have been settled on the mountains for many years and they serve for extreme mountain-bikers, who take part in the Buryatia Mountain Bike Cup, which is held by the Federation of Extreme Sports and Travel 'Baikal Extreme'.
