so far, even in the things i'm most expert at, i'm not easily able to find articles i think i can really contribute to. i'll keep looking.
here's some things i know a little about:
- computer science -- i'm getting a ph.d in cs; my area of research is computer architecture.
- linguistics. i've got a tiny bit of latin, a decent amount of attic greek, and a lot of sanskrit. i've also got some french and german. don't expect me to understand anything you send me in any of these -- it took me a year or so to realise i can't reliably say 'hello' in sanskrit. turns out academic language is different from spoken language somehow! my particular interests in language involve language development.
- history, the older or more clouded in uncertainty the better.
- music is the best stuff. some categories i admire are prog rock, folk music, blues, jazz, and plain rock.
- i play folk fingerstyle guitar and am always trying to become better. i play by ear, but am trying to pick up some more unusual chords -- i'm using a programme i wrote to generate these chords; drop me a line if you want to check it out.
- books. i read almost any category of writing, though i try to avoid artless material. i always have a book or two going.
- there's a great art film theatre in my town, so i've gotten into movies.
- beer rocketed from a tolerated lubricant to a passion in grad school. i love many styles, mostly american microbrews, and brew my own. i'm not good yet.
- i know about vegetarianism, liberalism, and organized labor because i ... um ... am one of each.
