Maritime India Summit 2021
editThe Maritime India Summit 2021[1] was inaugurated by Mr. Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Government of India on 2nd March 2021, which was a three day virtual event from 2nd to 4th March 2021. It was the second edition of the flagship Maritime India Summit 2016, which was attended by 16 international ministers from 11 countries.
The inaugural session saw the presence of H.E. Mr. Benny Engelbrecht, Hon’ble Transport Minister of Denmark, Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, Government of India, Mr. Mansukh Mandavia, Hon’ble Minister of State for Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) (I/C) and Minister of State for Chemical & Fertilizers, Government of India, Mr. Y. N. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of Andhra Pradesh and Mr. Vijay Rupani, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of Gujarat.
Mr. Narendra Modi, Hon'ble Prime Minister of India made the following launches and announcements during the event:
- Launched the Maritime India Vision 2030[2], which contains the targets to be achieved by Maritime Sector over the next decade along with the strategies related to each of the stakeholders of Ministry of Ports Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW),Government of India
- Announced that 486 MoUs[3] were signed for Maritime India Summit 2021 by 22 Maritime Ports/ Agencies/ Authorities for INR 3.39 Lakh Crore or USD 47.02 Bn across different subsectors
- Announced the compendium of 400 Investible Projects[4] for INR 2.24 Lakh Crore or USD 31.08 Bn for investment
- Launched the Sagar-Manthan: Mercantile Marine Domain Awareness Centre (MM-DAC)[5] which is an information system to enhance maritime safety, search, rescue capability and environmental protection
Some of the key statistics[6] of the event included:
- A total of 30 sessions were held over the three days of the summit which included five plenary sessions, six breakout sessions, 11 state sessions and three Chabahar related sessions.
- 16 international ministers from 11 nations joined the summit for different sessions
- About 1.90 lakh delegates registered for the summit
- A total of six Union ministers, Chief Ministers of three states and two State Ministers attended different sessions
- A total of 55 CEOs attended the CEO’s forum, which included 31 international CEOs and 24 Indian CEOs
- A total of 22 CEOs attended the CEO’s roundtable, which included 11 international and 11 Indian CEOs
- A total of 185 speakers attended various thematic sessions during the summit, which included 124 Indian speakers and 61 International speakers
- A total of 110 exhibitors participated in the summit, in 18 pavilions and 107 booths, which led to 7,500+ B2B meetings
- A total of 70,500+ visitors were recorded at the end of three days of the summit
The valedictory session[7] of the summit was held on 4th March 2021 and chaired by Mr. Mansukh Mandavia, Hon’ble Minister of State for Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) (I/C) and Minister of State for Chemical & Fertilizers, Government of India. Each of the 15 conveners spoke in the valedictory session to discuss the key takeaways for their respective sessions, which was followed by the closing remarks of Secretary, MoPSW, Hon’ble Minister of State for MoPSW (I/C) and Minister of State for Chemical & Fertilizers, and Secretary General, FICCI.
