New Account
editNote: this account is currently dead in the water. I no longer have the email to which this account is connected, and since I haven't used it in years, I do not remember the password. My new account is Lostdrewid. If I ever figure out how to do so, I intend to try to merge this account with my current one... but first I have to remember the password I used back then ^_^ While I'm surprised at just how harshly I described my then-disgust with the projects I had worked with, I shall leave the whole of this page intact to how it was some years ago.
Original Introduction
editMy userpage is my sandbox - by learning to format my userpage to my heart's content, I'm learning how to wiki. Hm. I wonder how long before wiki becomes a verb in the OED? :D Anyway, not much to say about myself [outside of that infobox, anyway ;)], other than that my name is Michael and I welcome anyone to address me as such. Not "Mike", please. I haven't been a "Mike" in ten years and I'd like to keep it that way:)
Wikipedia Philosophy
editMy wikipedia philosophy is very simple: I ask myself, "What would Jimbo Do?" Unfortunately, not knowing Jimbo personally, I often don't know what he would do. Instead, I just try to Do the Right Thing™. If I fail to do so, just tell me.
Current Projects
editWhile I had once been loosely a part of both the the CoCa project and the Avatar project, I must wash my hands of both. Mentally challenged children abound on pages from both projects and I refuse to deal with them. I left wikipedia entirely for months and have barely touched it this past year all because of blathering idiots. Enough.
I'm thinking of joining various Japanese language related projects here and on other Wiki sites, but sadly I don't have the time to do so as yet. Also, as my sidebar suggests, my command of the Japanese language is limited. I'm working on learning more, but studies have sadly come to a halt for now. I'd love to find a wiki-engine-esque website that would let me translate the Japanese Guide to Japanese into wiki format - or possibly do a similar thing on LJ - both so that I can force myself to examine all of those pages more closely and so that I can open up that guide to a wider audience. They are, as yet, the only guide to the language which actually teaches you how to think like a 日本人 would. Most textbooks I've seen, most websites I've seen, all try to teach Japanese from a Western prospective, and that's just plain wrong. And silly.
As I have time, I'd like to make a few more-or-less personalized userboxes. Sure, as always, people are free to use them for themselves, but these would be catered mroe specifically to me. Hope that isn't against policy, but I think I'm okay if I keep them in my own userspace. Just as my userpage is my sandbox, to teach me better how to wiki, my userboxes will also be experiments in better coding. With, you know, functional results - I'm not just making them to test, but to use as well. My first one is to proudly state that I am a Drewid, and has quite a bit of work to do before I'm happy with it.
FMI
editFor my own information: Harukaze's total edits by month The numerical difference between 2007年10月 and everything previous amuses me.
Hrm. Apparently editing from work, the edit page gets cached, so I've been reverting changes to my own page by accident. My poor userpage - reverted on purpose, reverted by accident, it's seriously going to be heading for an identity crisis one of these days.
