editUniversity of Newcastle Philosophy Club (Now defunct)
editThe University of Newcastle Philosophy Club has two primary aims.
To promote the study of Philosophy both academically and in the broader community.
To provide support and advice to those studying philosophy at the University of Newcastle, Australia as well as to any other students or members of the community with an interest in philosophical issues.
History
editThe exact date that the University of Newcastle Philosophy Club was founded is yet to be accurately determined. According to the 1968 edition of the clubs' journal, Dialectic, the club was founded in 1966. This makes it not only one the oldest academic clubs at the university, but one of the most long-running clubs of this kind in Australia.
Dialectic
editGiven that the February 1968 edition was 'Volume 2, Number 1', it seems probable that the first volume was published in 1967, though this is yet to be verified. Currently the University of Newcastle Special Collection and Rare book Archive has the February 1968 edition, which is the earliest edition found by current club members so far.
Dialectic now exists as the online forum and blog of the club.
