Animation in Iran came to existent at the end of 50's.
First attempts to make Animation in Iran were by artists like Esfandiar Ahmadieh, Jafar Tejaratchi, Parviz Asanlou, Nostrat Karimi, Petros Palian and Asadollah Kafafi between the years 1956-1961 at administration of culture and fine arts in Tehran. The first short animation film has been made by Esfandiyar Ahmadiyeh by the title "Nasreddin" in 1957, with very limited facilities.
Right now the biggest Animation producer in Iran is Saba Animation Center (subordinate to IRIB ) that produce more than 1000 minutes of Animaton each year. Animation feature films are very new to Iranian cinema that until now it had few screenings in cinemas such as ٍ"Egypt's sun" (2D) directed by Behrouz Yaghmayian, "Seven colors" by Maziar Mohamadi Nejad, "9:20 in Boushehr" Directed by Mohammad Amn Hamedani and produced by Hamed Jafari (3D), "Heart of phoenix" directed by Vahid Nasirian (3D), "Dreamland" directed by Ali lotfi (3D) and "Legend of Golnour" directed by Ali Noori Oskouyi (3D).
Also Iran had a great success in international festivals in short animation field that among these animations can mention, "Tunnel", "Lost Bride" from Moein Samadi and "Color of love" directed by Ali Noori Oskouyi.
Also for the first time in history of Iranian cinema and animation, Hadi Mohammadian as director and Hamed Jafari as producer won the awards of 33th Fajr International Film Festival by animation feature film "Princess of Rome".
