The New York Medal of Valor is an award of the State of New York given to the New York State Organized Militia.[1] The New York Medal of Valor is the highest New York State National Guard military award of the New York National Guard. It is awarded to any individual of the New York State Organized Militia who shall have displayed a conspicuous act of valor, heroism, courage or gallantry either in a military or civilian capacity.
For each succeeding award, a silver medal device (shield) will be attached to the suspension ribbon and the service ribbon.
