Bangladesh Studies is a category of area studies developed in the post-colonial period and is a product of nationalist historiography which focuses on the geographical dimensions and political borders of present day Bangladesh. While this area of study is generally focused on political, economic, social, cultural and environmental aspects pertaining to present day Bangladesh, in historical terms, it also would include neighbouring regions of western Bengal and the north-eastern region of India.
