Article Evaluation

edit

I have been interested in the history of Joseon which was the last dynasty of Korea. Through my research, I conclude that the Korean version of the Wikipedia page and the English version of the Wikipedia page on the history of Joseon were quite different, so I wanted the English version of Wikipedia’s coverage of the history of Joseon to be as good as it can be. The kings of Joseon were an especially interesting topic for me, therefore I visited the Jeongjo of Joseon article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on its dead links, its age, and its lack of completeness.

edit

I have noticed that there were some dead links on the page. Some links did not exist and I was able to click on some of the references but was not able to see the pages. Moreover, general references were cited at the bottom but not many citations were listed. Therefore, it was difficult to distinguish whether the article was reliable or not due to its dead links and its lack of citations

Most of the citations that were listed at the bottom of the page were written before the 2010s. Some citations even dated as far back as the 1700s, so it was hard to say that the citations are as current as possible.

Completeness

edit

Jeongjo was one of the greatest kings in Joseon because he made numerous attempts to improve Joseon. However, the Jeongjo of Joseon article on Wikipedia did not have much information about him. For example, he built Hwaseong Fortress while he was king and this is a very important accomplishment because many scientific systems were used to build Hwaseong Fortress. But there was no mention of Hwaseong Fortress in the Jeongjo of Joseon article on Wikipedia, and other descriptions about Jeongjo’s biography were too short, and it does not go deep enough into detail to have gotten a good understanding.

Summary

edit

To sum it up, I would rate the page as "so-so." I think it would be better to add additional information about him such as him building the Hwaseong Fortress, and him trying to communicate with his people. Also, citations were not up to date and there were some dead links, so it was impossible to say whether the citations were believable or not.
