PRINCIPLES I strive to live by: *
- Attitude
-
- Be myself, even if it seems ridiculous to be myself. If I don't be myself then nobody else would and this "self" would be lost from the world.
- Do not be afraid to make a fool of myself → if in the future I would be less foolish
- Do not be upset if others disagree with me or dislike me → take it as an opportunity to change for the better; if not, then appreciate the differences in the world, but never dislike anybody in return (it is okay to disagree).
- Never be arrogant or think I'm better than anybody. Trust me, I'm not. (Mm it's weird that I have to write this in 1st person. I talk to myself a lot and always uses 2nd person, i.e. if I'm writing this in a diary or something it would be like: "Never be arrogant or think you're better than anybody. Trust me, you're not. (Mm ... you write this in 1st person ...)) (Refer back to the first bullet ... see what I mean?) But if I do write it as I would do in a diary, if somebody reads it... erg. ... maybe I should just write a disclaimer saying that all "you" = "I" ... >< gosh maybe I should really pack up and go to bed before my brain gets ever stranger.
- People
-
- Focus on the good in every person
- "Among three men who walk with me, there must be a teacher of mine" -- Confucius
- ~Learn from everybody and do not let go of any opportunity to "walk" with others, even people that are very different from me, actually especially people who are very different from me, so there is more things to learn!
- Treat all people with respect and kindness.
- If I feel jealous - think of relativity and Dorothy (I'm sorry Dorothy if you ever read this, you've always been a great teacher and mirror for me. I've been constantly inspired by you).
- Compare myself with myself.
- Open up my eyes wider.
- Study
-
- "Never lose a holy curiosity." -- Albert Einstein
- ~Learn for the sake of learning.
- Procrastination - it would not be a problem if I don't take this little assignment as the end of the world.
- Please do not try to be a perfectionist. Mistakes are okay. Just do my work one chunk at at time (i.e. one less chunk left) and remember that
- Everything will be all right. Everything is calm. :D
- There is tomorrow and next week, but don't forget to see next year and the next decade
*August 18th, 2007, 1:51am. I am compiling this list in my last night at home before college. I've heard many things about colleges, both good and bad. So I hope this list, especially putting it on the top of a site where I actually updates regularly, would guide me through both the good and bad times. I remember in high school that there were definitely moments where I was so overwhelmed with work and/or other things in life that I got extremely nervous and my mind "freaked out". College will be more stressful, but I believe these principles will help me, guide me, and point me to the general right direction so that even in the unhappy times, my mind would stay calm and stay clear because it could still walk towards the light through all the fog and mud. Like the "Quotes:" list below, I hope this "Principles" list will continue to expand.
QUOTES:
"There are only so many things we can do in our lives; so i'm trying one thing new thing each time." ~ J.E.
"The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when one contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries to comprehend only a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity." -- Albert Einstein
"A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song." -- Maya Angelou
"Now is the time that we must choose between what is right, and what is easy." -- Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
"I don't like honors ... I don't need anything else. I don't think there's any sense to anything else. I don't see that it makes any point, that someone in the Swedish academy decides that this work is noble enough to receive a prize. I've already got the price! The prize is the pleasure of finding the thing out, the kick in the discovery, the observation of the people who use it. Those are the real things! The honors are unreal to me. I don't believe in honors." -- Richard Feynman
"... wishing there was some way I could fit in on that bus, some way to have both a skating and a social life. But I could not stop skating, and on that Friday night it hit me extra hard for some reason. I could not stop. I'm just going to keep skating, I thought then. Life is passing me by."--Rodney Mullen, The Mutt: How to Skateboard and Not Kill Yourself
"If I have seen farther, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." -- Sir Issac Newton
"Imagine a book. A book you are writing. Not with a pen or computer. But with your actions. Reactions. You life. Speech. Thought. Deeds. Habits. Secrets. Emotions. Hopes. Days are words. Weeks are pages. Years are chapters. Your heart is your book. A matter of record." -- Unknown
"it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be in the rghit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Amzanig huh? yaeh and I awlyas tghuhot slpeling was ipmorantt!" -- Cambridge University
"Being brave is not *not having fear,* its not letting fear stop you."- suggested by Christopher Beacham
"It's a puzzle, not an entanglement" - K.B. during interview, from a Taoism saying
"Problems cannot be resolved at once. Slowly untie knots, divide to conquer." - Deng Ming-Dao, the real quote
"I am not infallible, but if I quickly stand up after a fall, I do not remain as a failure."-H.L.
"I dream every night that my life is fake, that I'm really five years old sleeping in my bed and this is all a dream." - EastonBryan
"The ability to take criticism with a humble attitude is important. The courage of sincere apologizing is not inferior to a great accomplishment." - H.L.
"So come with me, where dreams are born, and time is never planned. Just think of happy things, and your heart will fly on wings, forever, in Never Never Land!" - Peter Pan
"life is like photography, you have to use the negatives to develop" - Rockie Nolan (nerdynotdirty from DPChallenge)
"So instead of getting to Heaven, at least- // I'm going, all along." - Emily Dickinson
"You're not weird; you are who you are. You are a believer and you refuse to be a follower." -- Stephanie Coyne on playing at the playground.
"It's up to you. If you don't want it to be sad, it won't be." -- M.M.
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream." -- Mark Twain
"It doesn't matter if others like you or not, as long as you like yourself, everything will be alright." - M.T.
"What's lost is lost; one should do the best with what is left." ~ A.S.
"If there is a very difficult decision that you have to make, if there is no clear cut way to decide between two choices, that you should flip a coin and choice randomly and make the best of what comes out of the decision; that would be better than wasting time thinking of the two different solutions... basically don't worry, ever." -A.S. "His brother (15) skates and his twin sisters (6) skate - no relatives skate. He has never been to woodward and he has never been coached. He has learned from local(flow)skaters, he learns most of his tricks by his own determination to do them." - Steven Krouth commenting on his 7-year-old son, Zachary "You can always make them [you dreams] come true, it just takes time and dedication. I think the word they made for it was passion." - J.E. "Growing up is a state of mind ... You never have to grow up, you only have to grow older." -Anna Fung 4-16-08
