Brainstorming questions for a discussion

edit

So here we are. I went down to the sea, I drank beer, I thought about algebra, I watched the sun set, and I thought about this debate idea. Here is a list of questions that I'd love to hear opinions on.

"Policy" related
  • What do you think of the Primary Notability Criterion - that: "A topic is notable if it has been the subject of non-trivial coverage in multiple reliable sources that are independent of the topic itself"?
  • What constitutes non-trivial coverage?
  • In the following list of citations often invoked in AFD discussions, could you comment briefly on each one:
    • this
    • that
    • WP:EVENT, for example
    • the other
    • [which policies, guidelines, essays, unicorns... are most often cited in AfD discussions? Which ones are controversial?]
AfD process related
  • What are AfD discussions good for?
  • How "old" should an article be before being nominated for deletion? (whether that means CSD, PROD, or AFD) Should brand new articles be given a grace period?
  • What should an AfD nominator do prior to nominating an article for AfD? Is WP:BEFORE a Good Thing?
  • Is AfD "broken"? If so, how? If not, what is your response to editors who think it is?
General questions about deletion as it relates to Wikipedia as a whole
  • How does Wikipedia suffer if too many articles are deleted? How does Wikipedia suffer if not enough articles are deleted?
  • Are articles in different general areas held to different standards? Is this good, or bad, or something else?
  • Is AfD "broken". If so, how?

That's what I came up with this evening. I would want to indicate that respondents should take each question as generally as they like, and feel free to make it open ended or to drift into issues that they think have been missed.

So, whaddya think? Are there other questions you'd like to see answered? Are there questions in this list that you see as redundant or unnecessary? -GTBacchus(talk) 19:05, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

I am under the idea that controversy sells and feeds a fundamental desire for excitement we all have. I think the questions should be controversial, to encourage inflential editors to throw off their wikispeak, and tell us how they really feel.

  • Some editors feel that notability should be completly abolished. Why do you think they feel this way?
  • How much of wikipedia is worhtless cruft?
  • Which argument in AFD discussions do you hate the most? Why?
