Condomínio Monte Belo

Located in the Talatona region of Angola's capitol city Luanda, Comdomínio Monte Belo is a luxury gated community. Residents in the community are predominantly expatriate employees of the Chevron Corporation from around the world, who reside in Luanda for work purposes. Other residents in the compound include Sonangol executives, who are employees of the national oil company of Angola. Past residents also include Angolan dignitaries such as the Bishop of the Angolan Catholic church.

Facilities

Within the community, there are several common facilities which are open to use to any resident. These facilities include a 25 meter pool, two playgrounds, one turf soccer field, one basketball court, a full gym with 3 treadmills and various weight machines, and one recreational room, complete with 2 sitting areas, one large dining area, and a small kitchen. These facilities can be reserved for parties and other celebrations such as birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and more. Other amenities include a dog park and two ice machines.

Housing

Each of the houses in the community are the same in floor plan, varying only in the color of the left outer wall of each house and its number. There are 100 houses in the Monte Belo, these falling under either the A, B, C, or D blocks and given a number ranging from one to 35. Within each house there are 3 bedrooms, an office, 4 full bathrooms and one half bathroom, a kitchen, two living areas, a play room, and a patio making up the 2 stories of the house.

People of Monte Belo

Of the many residents that live within Monte Belo, a vast majority of them are made up of families with children as young as infants all the way up to the graduating age of 18 or 19. Many of these families interact with each other, utilizing the facilities to hold birthday celebrations and observe American holidays such as Thanksgiving, despite the varied cultures between family units. A common community gathering that is held within the recreation center are barbecues where several families are invited to cook and eat while their children can play on the sport courts or playgrounds nearby. Other community activities include dinner parties, balls held in the city, and gatherings that teens may hold at their houses or recreation centers.

Monte Belo is located approximately 23.7 km from the capitol of city of Angola, Luanda which is the country's most populated and important city, acting as a major urban and cultural center. The southwestern country is located on the Atlantic coast of Africa and experiences a semiarid climate with varying wet and dry seasons throughout the year. The bustling city of Luanda lays directly on the coast, with over 3.5 million inhabitants, consisting majorly of native Angolans in addition to several Portuguese and Brazilian citizens as well as small scattered communities of Chinese and Vietnamese workers. Listed as one of the most expensive cities in the world by CNN, Angola "boasts a fabulous £15.3  billion worth of international oil reserves" with luxury hotels reserved for only the wealthiest Angolans and visiting expats. Talatona, a close suburb to the city, is only a 35 minute drive away from Ilha of Luanda (Ilha De Luanda), a popular beach sandbar and a common meeting place for the residents of the city.
