Lionel King is an African American poet, spoken word artist, essayist, and political activist. He is best known for his efforts to rebuild the spoken word community in New Orleans, Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. King, along with Fredrick Delahousse and Shedrick White, formed the New Orleans Renaissance Society which was dedicated to the cultural preservation of the spoken word in New Orleans.
