Kazakh tribes (Kazakh: қазақ рулары, romanizedqazaq rulary) belong to a specific group, the so-called clan (рыу). With a common battle cry — üran (ұран). It was headed by aqsaqals. Also each tribe had its own tamga (тамға). There are about 25 tribes and 200 clans. Below is a list of tribes and clans by seniority, not alphabetically.

  1. ^ In tsarist Russia from 1734 to 1925 the present-day Kazakhs were called Kirghiz-Kaisaks [ru] or Kirghiz, according to the official version, then it was done not to confuse Kazakhs with Cossacks.
