- Part 1 Sexuality

edit

Ira begins the book by looking at the history of Indian sexuality starting from ancient India to present times. She understands how the country that produced the Kamasutra and once worshipped sex (and still actually does) repressed sexuality.

Chapter 1 "The Gathering Revolution" explores changing sexual mores on Indian college campuses, including attitudes towards pre-marital through a young man Prayag who Ira interacts with over a course of two years.

Chapter 2 "The Making of a Porn Star" explores sexual behaviour through visits to sex clinics, modern porn stars, and through expert interviews with sexologists and relationship experts.

Chapter 3 "Kinky is Queer" is about India's burgeoning gay revolution which Ira explores through a number of different characters including Kapil, IIT Delhi's only openly gay student.

Chapter 4 "Pimps and Hoes," is about sex work in contemporary India and Ira explores different segments of the industry including the modern day "middle-class" prostitution which involves everyone from house-wives to college students.

Chapter 5 The Dark Side is contributed by Anjani Trivedi and explores how India's sexual revolution has a dark, underbelly of sexual violence, repression and crime.

- Part 2 Marriage

edit

Chapter 6 "Love Revolution" examines how love marriages are slowly gaining popularlity over arranged marriage, but not without some ensuing chaos through the backlash by khap panchayats and the like.

Chapter 7 "Matchmaker, Matchmaker" looks at how marriages are arranged in modern India and the factors that really matter to acquire a good bride/groom, through a series of interviews with marriage brokers across India.

Chapter 8 "The Big Fat Indian Wedding" looks at the forces behind the big fat Indian wedding and also at the biggest communal wedding in the history of this country.

Chapter 9 "Break Up." India is divorcing at a higher rate than in the history of the country. What are the reasons behind this, and what the consequences? Ira explores this through Shiny's story, a twice divorced young man who lives in Jalandar, Punjab.

Chapter 10 "Modern Love," looks at new paradigms of relationships, live-ins, open marriages and even swinger clubs. Ira then visits the Khasi's, a modern tribe in Shillong to see how things are done there.
