The New World People's Party (Hungarian: Új Világ Néppárt, UVNP) is a party formed in the fall of 2020. They define themselves as a center-right to center-left, open, pragmatic civic party[1] that was unveiled to the public on October 15, 2020. Their motto is: "Be happy in Hungary!".

About the party

edit

The New World People's Party was launched on October 15, 2020 by the party's presidency: Dr. József Pálinkás, who is the president of the party, Dr. Júlia Ábrahám, the vice president; Gabriella Lantos, László Fekete and Dr. Sándor Stelli-Kis who are members of the board. The UVNP aims to be a modern, pragmatic civic party that basically follows national liberal traditions with some conservative elements.[2][3] In the current political landscape they place themselves in the center-right to the center-left.

The party attaches importance to the presence of women in politics and supports making politics more feminine, as women bring a new perspective and style to the political space. The party thinks that a knowledge-based society is considered to be the cornerstone of economic development, including the ability to continuously innovate. Therefore, they seek to fundamentally reform education and to spread skills that help innovation, which would include educating children to think critically. In their view, the key to governance is knowledge and expert politics. They consider this a guarantee of success. One of their main goals is to renew the political culture of Hungary, to reunite a society divided by war rhetoric. The party also wants to broaden the middle class and improve people’s quality of life, which they think can increase prosperity and create a healthy, happy society. Core values such as fair competition or sustainable development are considered important. They also set out a plan in their program to reform the healthcare system. They also feel that the presence of a strong civil sector that can work with the state so no one gets left behind during the country's development is essential. At the same time, they consider national sovereignty and European integration to be essential factors, and the autonomy of Hungarian communities across the border and the cultivation of relations with them are also the basis of their program.[4]

The party wants to make fairness and morality an important pillar of their policy. These principles are set out in their Code of Ethics, and this document is considered mandatory for all current and future members. The party believes politicians “must meet stricter ethical requirements and higher moral standards than what the law defines as the minimum of compliance” because they believe ethical politcs and the renewal of political culture require it. They believe that the interests of the nation should be placed before personal and party interests and that politics should not be seen as a business but as a service, and that power should not be the goal but the means of politics. The importance of publicity and transparency, as well as cultured communication and a ban on hate speech, are considered important.[5]

On 21 May 2021 the New World People's Party has agreed with the six parties who are holding the opposition primaries and will participate in the 2021 Hungarian opposition primary election with the right to nominate candidates. The party announced the launch of 18 candidates on June 4 and 8 on June 17.
