Kyle Mangan was born in 1989 in California. In 1998 he moved with his family to Washington state where he lived for three years before moving again to Pleasant Hill, Oregon. He lives with his parents, Diana and Steve, and his younger sister, Emily.
Education
editAfter a finger-painting career in kindergarten, Mangan was homeschooled until age fourteen, when he enrolled at Lane Community College (LCC).
Music
editMangan has been playing guitar for eleven years (2006). Mangan also plays piano, bass, mandolin, drums, didgeridoo, and he is an accomplished vocalist. Mangan enjoys all facets of music: playing lead guitar in a local band, 39 Shillings, composing his own music and teaching guitar.
Writing
editOn November 14, 2006, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post # 3965 awarded Mangan 1st place for his Voice of Democracy (VOD) essay entitled "Freedom's Challenge". On January 20, 2007, Mangan won 1st place at the District level (VFW District 13) for the same VOD essay. He will now advance to compete at the State level (winner announced in March 2007).
Family
editMangan is a grandson of Douglas C. Engelbart, best known for his invention of the computer mouse, and founder of the Bootstrap Institute.
