Children Affected by Covid-19 With Their Education.

Covid-19 has affected so many people throughout the world. In my perspective, most adults can handle the situation. However, I never saw how bad it was going to impact the children. The children know that covid-19 is going on throughout the world, but they still can not understand that they have to be six apart and must have their mask on. But the primary situation is that they’re a lot of kids who may be falling behind in school because they are not receiving the same education. At the beginning of 2020, classes were in school; now they are through zoom. All schools are doing online work. I just started to work for the Boys and Girls Club and working right now at an elementary school helping kids with their zoom classes and homework. I have nine kids in my class and eventually will get more to have 12 students in total. These past few days, I saw how kids are way behind in their homework. Some didn't have a specific app set up where they did some of their assignments there, which meant that they had not started any of their homework. I have some kids that know how to speak English but do not know how to read it. When the subject is about math, many kids do not know how to do their homework because they just do not understand it. One of the most significant issues is that the children’s parents speak only Spanish or Mixtec. Many parents do not know English and can not help children with their English homework. Also, some parents barely know how to write their names, and that is it. They do not know how to read or write. When the kids are done with their zoom classes, I have them start their homework, and right away, I have the children asking me for help. Or their some that may not know where to find what is their homework assignments. I have different situations with class, but I try my best to help my kids. I have been trying to help them improve their reading skills and math skills. It can get a bit hard because you are trying to help every kid you have. With covid-19, it is hard for the children to go back to school and have a regular class day, but it is not possible right now. The school system needs to figure out how to make it better for the kids so they won’t get so behind in their education.
