Malakal Municipality History

Malakal is a municipality in South Sudan and second largest city after the national capital Juba. And it is the capital of Upper Nile State , South Sudan, near the White Nile river. It was established by the then governor of Upper Nile State, Simon Kun Pouch in 2012 and headed by first mayor Colonel. Choul Pout.

Administrative divisions

The municipality of Malakal is composed of North payam, South payam, and Central payam, and it is bordered on the east by Baliet country , on the northeast by Akoka county, on the south by Phaniykang country , and on the west by Makal county.

population

Malakal municipality is the third most populous population cluster in the state after Nasir and Renk counties respectively. The population of the municipality is estimated 147,000 according to 2008 census.
