UpCounsel is a US-based Legal Technology company launched in 2012 with headquarters in San Francisco, United States of America. UpCounsel provides a lawyer-matching online marketplace, enabling startups and businesses to find a lawyer by providing multiple quotes from specialised attorneys.[1]

History

edit

Upcounsel was founded in 2012 by Matthew Faustman and Mason Blake. Upcounsel began in AngelPad’s accelerator program.

In December 2014, UpCounsel received a further $2.4 million in funding from investors including Homebrew, Metamorphic Ventures and Crosslink Capital , bringing their total financing to date to $3.7 million. As of that date, Upcounsel had worked with over 1,000 businesses and signed up more than 5,000 attorneys across the US.[2][1]

Business Model

edit

UpCounsel provides a marketplace for businesses to post their legal requirements that attorneys can choose to view and quote for.

In addition to matching up clients with attorneys, UpCounsel also offers services allowing the lawyer and client to communicate, share documents and affix electronic signatures. Upcounsel also handles all invoicing and payment for both parties.[1]
