Model 1900 Bolt-Action Single-Shot .22 Rifle The Model 1900 bolt-action single-shot .22 rifle was bought by Winchester from John M. Browning in 1899. When Winchester started manufacturing this new model it was necessary to make several changes from Browning’s original design because Winchester wanted an inexpensive .22 caliber rifle. After the changes were made, the firearm was introduced to the market in August 1899. It was announced as the Winchester Single-Shot Rifle model 1900 The model 1900 is a single-shot rifle. It is a low-priced gun designed to handle .22 short or .22 long rim-fire cartridges. This model is a “Takedown” which means that it can be taken apart easily and quickly. The action used on this gun is a bolt action type, and it is very easy to use. It only consists of a few parts. The bolt action permits carrying the gun cocked without liability of the action jarring open. This rifle has a round barrel. It is 18 inches long, bored, and rifled for accurate shooting. The model 1900 is fitted with open front and rear sights. The length of the model 1900 is 331/4 inches. The general specifications of the model 1900 are, bolt action, takedown, single-shot rifle, cocked by pulling rearward on the firing pin head, sporting rifle, 18 inches round, .22 short and long .22, gum wood, finished to show the grain and natural color of the wood, straight grip, and it was made without a fitted butt plate. The form of a butt plate was rolled into the butt end of the stock.
