The Shurah (Arabic: الشراة, translit. Ash-Shurāh), known more commonly as the Khawarij (an Arabic word which means "outsiders") by Sunnis, and Shi'ites, were a 7th century Islamic group that broke into revolt against the Islamic Caliphate of Ali ibn Abu Talib in 657.
