Ranorex GmbH is an Austrian information technology company that produces test automation software.[1][2] The company headquarters are in Graz,[1][2] Austria's second-largest city and capital of the federal state of Steiermark (Styria).[3] Ranorex also has a US subsidiary, Ranorex Inc., located in Houston, Texas.[4][5] As of September 2018, more than 4,000 customers in over 60 countries were using the company's flagship product, Ranorex Studio.[6]
History
editIn 2004, Ranorex co-founder Jenö Herget was a programmer working on a software development team in Graz.[4][6] The team wanted to automate the repetitive tasks inherent in software testing. Since Herget could find no suitable product on the market, he wrote his own testing tool.[4][6] Convinced that there was a need for this type of product and assisted by his son Gabor Herget, Jenö Herget expanded the product and made it publicly-available online for free in 2006 under the name "Ranorex".[4][6] Reception of this early version was positive, earning recognition at the 2006 .NET conference in Switzerland, Austria, and Germany, the BASTA.[7][8] With assistance from EOSS Industries Holding GmbH, Jenö and Gabor Herget founded Ranorex in September 2007.[4][6] At the time of the company founding, Ranorex was both the name of the company and of its flagship software testing product.[4]
One year after the company's founding, 90 percent of sales were to customers outside of Austria; as a result, Ranorex was recognized by the Styrian Chamber of Commerce with the Styrian Export Award in 2008.[9]
In October 2017, Ranorex was purchased by IDERA, Inc. for an undisclosed sum.[10][11]
Recognition and awards
editIn December 2015, Ranorex was identified as a "niche player" in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Software Test Automation.[12][13]
Ranorex was recognized as one of "Austria's Best Employers" in the small business category in 2016, and in the medium business category in 2017, by the Great Place to Work® organization.[14][15]
In May 2017, the Federation of Austrian Industry listed Ranorex among 91 "IT gazelles," or fast-growing IT companies in Austria that had at least 10 employees in 2010, and experienced staff growth of at least 80 percent between 2010 and 2016.[2]
In July 2017, Zion Market Research identified Ranorex as a key player in the global automated software testing market.[16][17]
