Yorkshire entomology of skeg

The Yorkshire diolectal term skeg is defined as to look and to glance at.

E.g. 'Gizza skeg'/'Give a look'

I believe the origins of this word like most in Yorkshire is of Danish origins.

The Danish "skele" closely resembles "Skeg" which also means to look, to glance at.

Many belive Skegness, a town in North East Lincoln (former Lindsy) to mean Bread point due to the local flour mill but I dispute these claims.

I believe it translates to looking point due to it's stratigic location overlooking the mouth of the humber an important trading route at the time.

This aritical is my claim to the discovery of skeg's origins, James Kirton
