The evaluation any prospective administrator must perform is whether or not it is essential that they have the tools that being an administrator provides, or if they can perform the tasks they want to perform with a regular user-level account. Generally, as a user becomes more active (and assuming they are considerate of Wikipedia's policies), other users will start to entrust more responsibilities to them. Eventually, other users will trust them enough to perform tasks that require large degrees of control over a situation. Eventually, it will become useful to have tools that allow you to have greater control over that situation than other users (for example, acting as a mediator, it is useful to have the ability to ban offending parties). User Permissions vs. Administrator Permissions Look over the table carefully and decide whether or not it is necessary for you to acquire the permissions that administrators have, and users do not. Also, if your account is relatively new, your account may not have achieved autoconfirmed status, which adds extra permissions to your account. Autoconfirmed status is generally added to an account by the software if an account is over 4 days old and has made 10 or more edits. No, I Don't Want to Become an Admin That's perfectly fine, users still contribute the most material to Wikipedia, and most users are content with the tools they have available to them. Continue to improve Wikipedia and remain active in the community. As long as you are respectful of Wikipedia's policies and avoid conflict with other users, then if there is ever a time in the future when you do want to become an admin, your position will most likely have improved with time and you will have a greater chance of successfully becoming an admin. Make sure you also study successful RfAs and Unsuccessful adminship candidacies in order to recognize potential advantages and pitfalls from other user's experiences.
