Alpha Gamma Delta’s History

Alpha Gamma Delta was founded May 30, 1904. It was founded at the home Dr. Wellesley Perry Coddington, a professor at Syracuse University. Alpha Gamma Delta has 11 founders, and since the founding collegiate chapters have been installed at 186 colleges and universities across North America. They 11 founders names are Marguerite Shepard,Estelle Shepard Beswick, Georgia Alberta Dickover, Jennie Titus Smith,Ethel Evelyn Brown Distin,Grace Mosher Harter,Edith Macconnell Hickook, Mary Louise Snider, Georgia Otis Chipman, Emily Helen Butterfield, and Flora Knight Mayer. Alpha Gamma Delta’s history at Ball State University

Alpha Gamma Delta was founded at Ball State University November 5, 1988, the Beta Tau Chapter. Alpha Gamma Delta, Beta Tau Chapter has 88 collegiate members presently. They have a sorority house owned by Ball State University on 1613 W. Riverside, Muncie IN, 47303. Beta Tau’s motto is Inspire the Woman. Impact the World. In 2012 Alpha Gamma Delta, Beta Tau Chapter, earned a 5 star chapter.Beta Tau Chapter also received a Jewel Society in 2011.

Philanthropy

Alpha Gamma Delta has a foundation that provides grants and supports members and other individuals with diabetes. Also financial support is also offered to members in emergency situations. Alpha Gam’s philanthropic events focus on diabetes awareness and education. At Ball State University Alpha Gamma Delta’s signature philanthropic event is the Par-Tee Golf Tournament. This tournaments benefits the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, which contributes to juvenile diabetes. In 2012 Alpha Gamma Delta Beta Tau chapter had over 30 teams at their philanthropy.

To gain understanding that wisdom may be vouchsafed to me. To develop and prize health and vigor of body. To cultivate acquaintance with many whom I meet. To cherish friendships with but a chosen few and to study the perfecting of those friendships. To welcome the opportunity of contributing to the world’s work in the community where I am placed because of the joy of service thereby bestowed and the talent of leadership multiplied. To honor my home, country, my religious faith. To hold truth inviolable, sincerity essential, kindness invaluable. To covet beauty in environment, manner, work and thought. To posses high ideals and to attain somewhat unto them. This shall be my purpose that those know me may esteem Alpha Gamma Delta for her attainments, revere her for her purposes and love her for her Womanhood.

Scholarship

To be a initiated member you must have a grade point average of at least 2.3. Each member must be maintain a 2.8 to be in good standings. At Ball State University as a Greek community as a whole has a grade point average that is higher than the University’s average[4]


Recruitment

Alpha Gamma Delta Beta Tau Chapter, has formal recruitment in the fall. Through fall recruitment in 2011 Alpha Gamma Delta welcomed more than thirty new members to their growing chapter.

Housing

The Alpha Gamma Delta's have a small four-bedroom house. This house is located at 1613 West Riverside in Muncie Indiana. Alpha Gamma Delta is one of the oldest sororities on Ball State University's campus. Ball State University has four small sorority houses on its campus. The rest of the sororities have small suites in dorms on Ball State's campus.
