The Five Pillars of Wikipedia

edit

1: Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia

edit

Wikipedia is an indiscriminate collection of knowledge brought together and contributed by people of the world. You can find any topic or subject. If it hasn't been created then you can start it yourself! The content is monitored for accuracy and accreditation consistently by the same network of people that contribute to Wikipedia.

2: Wikipedia has a neutral point of view

edit

No biased opinions allowed!! Since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, it is not a place for anyone to express there point of view on a particular subject. Just the facts, please!

3: Wikipedia is free content

edit

Anyone can access Wikipedia and search for a topic of interest. All material should be properly sited and copyright laws should be followed.[2]

4: Wikipedians should interact in a respectful and civil manner

edit

Since communication among Wikipedians is by text only, it is hard to detect ones tone of writing. Always assume your fellow Wikipedians have good intent. Everyone works together to make Wikipedia a reliable source so critiques and edits should not be taken in a negative manner.

5: Wikipedia does not have firm rules

edit

An article can be edited and re-edited again and again. If mistakes are made, they will be found and can be corrected. Therefore, wording and interpretation are subject to change.
