editWelcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created Judith Collins, and I noticed that the username you have chosen, "Jc press sec", seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of something other than yourself. Please note that you may not edit on behalf of a company, group, institution, product, or website, and Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are promotional or accounts that are shared. If you are willing to use a personal account, please take a moment to create a new account or request a username change that represents only yourself as an individual. You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and remember that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 20:44, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
- I think you can safely ignore this warning. You have noted your conflict of interest, declared that you won't edit the page and haven't done so other than for replacing the photo, which was asked for. So there are absolutely no problems. There's no need to reply to FreeRangeFrog; I have asked this user to outline his or her rationale for the COI tag on the article's talk page. Schwede66 20:59, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
- I should clarify that my above 'safely ignore' advice was in relation to the conflict of interest issue only. With regards to your username, you may well be outside policy. I suggest you work with FreeRangeFrog on this issue until it's resolved. Sorry if my incomplete advice above has caused any issues. Schwede66 02:29, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
- No problem - no issues. I have posted on [[1]] that I will change my user name - seems the easiest thing to do even though the policy doesn't seem particularly useful in this case.
- Cool. Go to Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple and follow the instructions to get it done. Schwede66 06:34, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
Hello, Polkad0t. Concerns have been raised that your username may be incompatible with policy. You can contribute to the discussion about it at the page for requests for comment on usernames. Alternatively, if you agree that your username may be problematic and are willing to change it, it is possible for you to keep your present contributions history under a new name. Simply request a new name at Wikipedia:Changing username following the guidelines on that page, rather than creating a whole new account. Thank you. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 21:23, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
Changing your username
editHi, Jc press sec. I was one of the folks who commented in that discussion about your username. First, sorry for all the irritation this all must cause. Admittedly we come down far too hard on editors in situations like this. In the interest of putting the name issue to rest, I'll tell you what I would do in your shoes:
Go to the page WP:CHUS and follow the instructions at the top of the page. Once one of our people changes your name, log out of your new name and re-create the "Jc press sec" account so nobody takes it after it is deleted. Then go to the user page of that account (User:Jc press sec) and save the following text on that page: #REDIRECT [[User talk:New username here]] (with your new username in the red). This will merely redirect people to your new user talk page if people try to access your "User:Jc press sec" page. Then just log out of the Jc press sec account and never use it again.
Note that even though the CHU instructions say your old account will be deleted once you're renamed, sometimes the system doesn't actually do it—so if it says the Jc press sec name already exists when you try to re-create it, you are good to go and you don't have to worry about the whole re-creation process.
Any questions and I'll be more than happy to help on either this page or my own talk page. NTox · talk 23:31, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- Super, thanks so much for your help. I will get on to this right away. Jc press sec (talk) 03:07, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
