Prince Punuariʻi Teriʻitapunui Pōmare was a member of the Pōmare Dynasty, the reigning family of the Kingdom of Tahiti.

Biography

He was the fifth son of Pōmare IV, queen of Tahiti, and her second husband and first cousin Tenaniʻa Ariʻifaʻaite a Hiro, chieftain in Huahine.

Upon his birth, he was given the title of grand-chieftain of the district of Afaʻahiti, in Tahiti.

In June 1862 he married Princess Teri'inavahoro'a, a member of the noble Ma'i family of Bora-Bora. Their two daughters, who died leaving no offspring, were

  • Princess Teri'inavahoro'a Pōmare, born April 15, 1873, died April 12, 1874.
  • Princess Edith Marie Pōmare, born February 3, 1882, died in 1899. Engaged in December 1898 to George Tupou II, king of Tonga. She died less than a year after the engagement, before her coronation as queen consort of Tonga.
