Wikiunity is a free wiki hosting website co-founded by Michael McCouman Jr., Tim Weyer, and Bob Weinand.[2] Wikiunity is based in Germany, with its official headquarters in Eisenach, Germany.[3] It derives most of its money from free hosting and advertisements, however, premium hosting is also offered. The site hosts approximately 95 wikis using the open-source wiki software MediaWiki.[4]
History
editWikiunity was founded on October 26, 2011 by Michael McCouman jr., Tim Weyer, and Bob Weinand in Germany. All three spoke German and therefore started out with German wikis only. The core of Wikiunity was built by Weyer and Weinand.
As of July 12, 2012, Wikiunity is no longer open due to a faulty MediaWiki version upgrade.
Community
editWikiunity is governed by the Wikiunity Stewards, who have access to wiki configuration. There are helpers (Wikiunity Helpers) who help the community.
Software
editWikiunity uses MediaWiki 1.18.1, plus its own extensions.
