The United Nations Information Centre Mexico City (UNIC Mexico City) (Spanish: Centro de información Naciones Unidas México, CINU Mexico) is one of the United Nations Information Centres (UNICs) that is located in Mexico City that provides service to the Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.[1]
UNIC Mexico City serves as the main point of contact for engagement between the United Nations and the governments of Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic, as well as civil society, media, academia and youth in those countries.
In addition, the Centre provides the overall leadership to the rest of the network of information centres in Latin America and the Caribbean. As such, it assists with the coordination of regional activities.[2]
Services
editSupport to the Secretariat
editUNIC Mexico City, in coordination with the United Nations Development Programme, organises official visits of United nations officials to the region covered by the Centre. Additionally, it regularly sends analyses of the current situation of countries in the region to the United Nations Headquarters based on news reports, press releases and summaries of articles published by local media. The centre also provides advice to representatives of United Nations funds and programmes based in Mexico City.

editUNIC Mexico City is part of an international system of information centers set up by the United Nations that currently operates in over 130 countries via 63 differenct centers. These centers are run by the Department of Global Communications, and work to disseminate information about the United Nations to the global public. They aim to do this via the translation of materials into local languages, the engagement of local opinion-makers and by placing op-ed articles by senior United Nations officials in the local media. The centers serve as one of the main vehicles through which the United Nations hopes to tells its story to the world.[4]
