Don Thomas Rous
The founder and former owner of First Sugar Central of the Philippines.
The Hind Sugar Central which is the oldest centrifugal central in the Philippines is located in barrio, Manaoag, Pangasinan. Owned by the Rous family for many years, it was bought by Robert Renton Hind in 1932. He later sold it and is now a 100 percent Filipino Corporation. It produces a total of 900 to one thousand piculs daily, operation in the shifts. The Republic (Hind). Alcohol Distillery, (also originally owners by the Rous family) sister corporation of the sugar central which is under the same management, produces alcohol from molasses. It manufactures between four to five thousand litters of rectified ethyl alcohol daily from November to March. Because of the presence of these sister company the sugar boom in Manaoag and the neighboring Pangasinan towns has been going on for the past five decades. These is no wonder therefore why most of the towns in the fourth district in Pangasinan are of first class category.
