Theories
editThese are just different theories that I have developed.
Time Travel
editThese are some of my theories on time travel.
Remembering the Past
editIn the Back to the Future movies, no matter how much the past was changed, Marty and Doc always remember the original timeline. My theory for this is that the "Ripple Effect" can only affect you if you're in it's path. In 1955, when George punches Biff, Marty is in that time. As the "Ripple Effect" goes to the future changing history, Marty isn't there (1985). Thus, the "Ripple Effect" can't change his memory. By the time he returns to 1985, the "Ripple Effect" has passed over, and he retains all his original memorys.
Remembering the Future
editNow, this can get kind of complicated in the second movie, where Marty and Doc (as well as Jenifer and Einstein) are in the future when Biff changes the past. This can be explained by the fact that the future hadn't started changing (except for Biff disapearing, but that's another story), indicating that the "Ripple Effect" hadn't reached that time yet. When Marty and Doc (with Jenifer and Einstein of course) return to 1985(A), they jump over the "Ripple Effect" through the course of time traveling, and, again, retain their memorys.
