Hi, my name is Jason Nishiyama. I am currently a teacher working at a high school in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I am also a sessional instructor in introductory astronomy at the Calgary campus of the University of Calgary.
I have a B.A. in political science from the University of Calgary (1993), a B.Ed in secondary education from the University of Alberta (1998) as well as a M.Sc. in Astronomy from the Swinburne University of Technology (2012).
I have also served with the Canadian Forces since 1988 in the Cadet Instructor Cadre branch of the Reserve force. I transferred from the air to sea elements in 2004 and retiring in 2010 at the rank of Lieutenant(Navy). I was the commanding officer of 344 Victoria RCSCC from 2005-2009.
I am also active in amateur astronomy focusing on radio astronomy and planetary nebula. I am also an active model railroader.
I have also authored an introductory textbook on planetary nebulae: An Introduction to Planetary Nebulae.
In 2000 I was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration for my reserve service and in 2005 I was awarded the Alberta Centennial Medal for service to the people and province of Alberta.
