Taurez "Big Rez" Russell was born March 21st, 1992, in Lagrange, Georgia.

Early Life

edit

Big Rez wrote his first rap at the age of 8. Heavily influenced by his uncle who also rapped in his younger years. A few of his early inspirations included Tupac, Bow wow, Kanye West, Lil Wayne & Andre 3000. In middle school he found a love for the sport of football. He would graduate from Valley High School in 2010 and turn down 4 college offers to walk on at The Alabama State University. A historical HBCU located in Montgomery, Alabama.

College Life

edit

During his first year, Big Rez failed to maintain a eligible gpa that would allow him to play football at Alabama State University. In addition to this, he was sent home after his third semester. He returned Fall 2012 & shifted his focus to the classroom. After learning that he needed over 70 hours to graduate and that he only had one more year of eligibility left to play football. In 2014 he decided to transfer to Columbus State University located in Columbus Georgia; Where he'd be awarded another opportunity to play football and finish with a degree in Communication Studies. Columbus State's football team affiliated with the NCFA, so they didn't operate under NCAA rules. Big Rez managed to blossom on the field and in the classroom. In 2015 he won the defensive player of the year award recording a total of 39 tackles, 17 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles from his defensive tackle position. He graduated from Columbus State University in 2017 majoring in Communication Studies.

The Shift

edit

In 2018 Big Rez went to a art exhibit/ open mic event at Columbus State University. At the time Big Rez had did away with football and music and was focusing strictly on film after releasing his debut short film "Wolf" starring Brandon Todd. During the event he discovered a upcoming artist by the name Tobe Nwigwe. Tobe was the host of the show, he shared his story about his football past, his injury, and the dark place he spent time in finding himself. That story spoke to Big Rez, and reawakened his love for music.
