editAbout
editI am a fan of wikis, books, and the giant living library that is Tha Innuhnet. I specialize in information and data visualization across many problem spaces. Nothing I post or edit here has anything to do with my employers past or present.
For a while I was a technical founder and CTO, then head of product, at an interest graph API company called 140 Proof in San Francisco, CA. I went to school in Michigan. If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look around you.
Cognitive Bias Codex
editI designed a diagram called the Cognitive Bias Codex that concisely maps the 188 known cognitive biases in a radial pattern. This infographic was inspired by, and built upon, an article by Buster Benson which attempted to organize the known cognitive biases teleologically (by the likely purposes they serve, specifically the optimization problems they simplify). The work has been widely cited and reproduced.
I created the diagram in 2016 using JavaScript code to render a radial dendrogram, then hand-tuned and optimized the diagram layout using the app Sketch. The work was a one-day educational project I undertook to better learn Sketch.

As the creator, I am conflicted as to its status here. Please don't re-add the image to Wikipedia articles if moderators or the community consensus rules against doing so. Thank you.
History
editI am a more or less native English-speaker with rusty Spanish and vestigial Armenian abilities. I enjoy real-time visualizations, architecture, design, and other nerd stuff. Messaging me (@jm3) on Twitter is usually the fastest way to get in touch.
