Connective media is the study of the ecosystems of communication, information, and media that has an impact on how people live their lives.
Connective Media suggests the new world order where communication, information, and media collapse or converge into one.
Connective Media is about redefining media. Because of the convergence of information, processes of disruption come out when all the media that cannot adjust lose their footing. Information in media has value and the ways to generate this value are changing, so we need to think about what it means to be a media organization of the future.

But Connective Media is distinct from social media?
MN: Connective Media is broader. Of course, it depends on how we define social media. Social media, to me, are services that were designed as communication platforms and networks first and foremost, so Facebook and Twitter and other sites that build significance through individual participation. You could claim that media organizations are getting closer to that model, but I still cannot log onto The New York Times and post an article. Comments on select pages aside, it's still not social in the same way the Facebook and Twitter are. To me that's a distinction, but obviously we're getting convergence and a lot more overlap between the different platforms.
The Connective Media program will produce the next generation of tech talent to respond to, and drive, the digital transformation of publishing, advertising, news and information, and entertainment.
The Connective Media program is aimed at meeting the growing need for technologists in media-related industries, to respond to, and to drive the digital transformation of publishing, advertising, news and information, and entertainment. The Connective Media degree combines technical, social science and media industry expertise in a broad interdisciplinary two-year program, with an immersive semester-long industry project and extensive engagement with digital media companies in New York City. The program will train a new generation of talent to develop technologies, applications and experiences that take advantage of the constant access to, and sharing of, online information in the digital and mobile world. Graduates of the program will be equipped to help lead the digital transformation of the city's and the nation's media industries, and will receive degrees from both Cornell and Technion.[2]
