Edit the Museum
editWe want to create the world’s first truly multilingual virtual museum to allow anyone with access to Wikipedia (including those people using Wikipedia Zero) to 'visit' the museum online and provide information for the 50% of Natural History Museum visitors who speak languages other than English in their own language.
It will be created on Wikipedia and use a special sort of link called a QRpedia link that takes you to a Wikipedia article in your own language automatically. We want to create this guide so that it is usable with little or no understanding of English. People will be able to use it in the museum to explore objects and ideas in their own language using their smartphones, tablets or online.
The event will involve:
- Taking photos of objects on display in the museum
- uploading them to Wikimedia Commons
- Constructing the virtual museum
The virtual museum
editAn early version of the multilingual virtual museum is available here
The most developed section of it is the Butterfly House.
