Eyelash curler

An eyelash curler is a hand-operated mechanical device for curling eyelashes for cosmetic purposes. Usually only the upper eyelashes are curled. Before using, the device can be shortly heated with a hair dryer, but not to the extent to burn the delicate skin above the eyes. Self-heating, battery-operated units are available.

The first known patent for the eyelash curler states that it was filed by Charles Stickel and William McDonell from Rochester, New York. A further review of the 1931 Eyelash Curler patent[1] shows that it was invented by William McDonell. It can use with Fine Magnify 2x Mirror with Suction Cups.

William Beldue and his Kurlash Company held patents in Canada, the United States and Great Britain for the eyelash curler and improvements to it.

Eyelash curlers are usually made of metal, and often have rubber pads where the curlers make contact with the lashes. Manufacturers include Shiseido and Shu Uemura.

How to use? There are two ways of using eyelash curler it can be either used after warming up with a hair dryer or it can be used without warming. To get the best results it is recommended to use it after warming up with a hair dryer because it lasts for longer hours. When using it with the hair dryer it is very important to be cautious of the heat you warm it up to so that it doesn’t burn. To avoid the dangers of burning the eyelid from the metal curler many companies have introduced the plastic based curlers and to further advance that some of the companies are looking into introducing the self-heated curlers to control the amount of heat and completely avoid the burn.

[2] To begin warm up the curler and then curl the eyelashes for 10 to 15 seconds repeat curling them until you have the desired shape. Next apply more coats of the mascara and curl the eyelashes once more for the final look. Repeat the application of mascara and curling of the lashes until the desired length reached. Some users might have to apply mascara and curl the eyelashes more times as compared to others because of varying lengths of the eyelashes.

Advantages It is a good make up kit tool because it gives the illusion of bigger and brighter eyes and helps lengthen the eyelashes. When it is applied using different tactics like heavier on the outer corner eyelashes it gives a different and well defined shape to the eyes. It is easy to use without professional training and is not very expensive to purchase along with this it is not a very big tool so it can be comfortably placed in the makeup bag.

Disadvantages Amongst many advantages there are some disadvantages to the eyelash curler. If not used with care to only curl the eyelashes but pulling on them while curling can lead to weakening of the roots. This may result in eyelashes becoming weak and eventually lead to shedding which can be very bad for an eye because they protect the eye from wind and dust and don’t grow back so quickly.

Sometimes it can lead to accidents where a user can pinch the eyelid and depending on the amount of pressure they apply can cause a serious injury to the eye. Similarly when used warm can cause serious burns to the eyelid especially the ones made of metal can be seriously dangerous when used warm.
