Christopher "Chris" Hegarty (born 13 August 1992) is a Northern Irish footballer who currently plays for NIFL Premiership side Linfield.
Career
editHegarty began his career with local side Dungannon at the age of 14 and he spend two seasons at the club, before joining English side Millwall in 2008, Hegarty spent two seasons at Millwall in the summer of 2010 he joined Scottish side Rangers.[2]
Hegarty signed a new one-year deal in the summer of 2012 after making his debut for the first team in a friendly in May 2012. The defender has featured for Northern Ireland at under-16, under-17, under-19 and under-21 level. His contract with the Light Blues expired at the end of the 2011-12 campaign and he became the first of Ally McCoist's signings of the summer of 2012 after the club was taken over by Charles Green's consortium.[3]
Hegarty made his debut for Rangers in the Challenge Cup win against Falkirk, playing 83 minutes before he was substituted and replaced by Robbie Crawford.[4] His league debut for Rangers came in the Third Division match against Clyde[5]. Hegarty went on to make 29 appearances for Rangers becoming a regular in the starting eleven, however, the following season Hegarty featured only twice and missed the majority of the season through injury. He started and scored, the first goal, in Rangers opening league fixture against Brechin City[6] In the summer of 2014, he agreed to terminate his contract, despite having only signed an extension in February 2013[7] . Upon his release from Rangers Hegarty joined Linfield[8].
