Professor A. V. Polson was a prominent professor of History and Economics at Maharajah's college in Ernakulam, Kerala, Cochin, India.

He graduated with his law degree from Lucknow University and also got his MA degree from Maharajah's college.

The Maharaja's College is a government college of higher education located in Kochi, Kerala. Established in 1875, it is one of the oldest colleges in India. Located in the heart of the city, it is spread over a campus of 100,000 square metres (25 acres) on the banks of Vembanad Lake. Blanketed by tall and rare species of trees, its campus features a mix of old and modern architecture and covers a total area of 19,525 m2 (210,170 sq ft), providing infrastructural facilities for the 19 departments of the college.

Professor Alangadan Varunny Polson (aka A. V. Paulson) was born in Irinjalakuda, Trichur District and after his schooling in IJK, went to Lucknow to become a barrister/advocate from the Lucknow University. He has held various positions as Lieutenant in the Indian Navy, Advocate doing legal practice for some years and then went into Education as a lecturer and later a Professor of Maharajah's college where he studied.

Professor Polson was a prominent society leader and was involved in many organizations like the Sahitya Parishad, and the founding member of Kerala History Association and was also the President and Secretary of Rama Varma Union Club for many years. He has written a chapter in Kerala History books on the British rule in Kochi and written extensively on Bristow's foresight into building the Wellington Island when the cochin port was dredged and the soil from the dredging was dumped to create Wellington Island.

Professor Polson lived in his residence in Ernakulam next to Hotel Dwaraka on M. G. Road, Opposite Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala for over 50 year until his passing in 2011. He was a great tennis player and won many trophies all over Kerala and India and enjoyed traveling and playing tennis. He was a tennis enthusiast at Rama Varma Club and Lotus Club in Kerala where he won many tournaments and accolades for his passion for tennis and encouraging others to play tennis and conducting tennis tournaments for the Maharajah's college and the city.

Professor Polson was a well respected historian and professor who was instrumental in starting IAS coaching classes in Maharajah's in Kochi. He was an avid tennis and soccer player and an orator and gave many speeches on various socio-economic topics at various venues within India. His literary knowledge and command of the English, Malayalam and Hindi language was commendable and often applauded by fellow professors and students alike. A. K. Anthony and Vayalar Ravi are some of this students among many students he interacted with while his tenure at Maharajah's College.
