In 2013, work started to improve London Bridge station by means of refurbishment and platform alterations. It is one of the largest stations by passenger volume in London and the UK. This was part of the Thameslink Programme and works to the station were complete in 2018.

editWork started in 2013 and was completed in 2018.[1][2] From 5 January 2015 until 20 May 2018, all Thameslink through trains were diverted via Herne Hill and did not call at London Bridge.[3] Thameslink services remained in operation from London Bridge to Brighton via Gatwick Airport with 2 trains per hour.
Other major redevelopment plans happened at Birmingham New Street and Reading. Waterloo has reopened the ex-Eurostar platforms in 2019.
