This is a list of notable recurring characters portrayed by members of the Firesign Theatre (Peter Bergman, Philip Proctor, Phil Austin, and David Ossman). They are presented in chronological order of album introduction; album (non-compilation) recurrences are also listed.
Ralph Spoilsport
editPortrayed by Philip Proctor. A used-car dealer, parody of southern California's Ralph Williams, first appears in How Can You Be in Two Places at Once When You're Not Anywhere at All. Subsequently appears in the Millennium trilogy Give Me Immortality or Give Me Death, Boom Dot Bust, and Bride of Firesign.
Nick Danger
editPortrayed by Phil Austin. A hardboiled detective, parody of the film noir genre. First appears in How Can You Be in Two Places at Once When You're Not Anywhere at All, side B, The Further Adventures of Nick Danger, "Cut 'Em Off at the Past".
Rocky Rococo
editPortrayed by Philip Proctor. Nick Danger's criminal nemesis, patterned after Peter Lorre's portrayal of the Dashiell Hammett character Joel Cairo in the 1941 film The Maltese Falcon. Described as a "little man", pictured in the liner notes portrayed by Peter Bergman, creating the image of a bald man with a moustache and wearing a fez. In subsequent live shows, Proctor wears a red Shriner's fez.

Mark Time
editPortrayed by David Ossman. An astronaut who first appears in I Think We're All Bozos on This Bus on the Future Fair Funway recruiting a crew for his trip to "the haunted space station". Second appearance is in a parody Flash Gordon serial on the Dear Friends radio show. Third appearance was to be added to the filmed radio play Martian Space Party as returning from a trip to Planet X for the album Not Insane or Anything You Want To; but this was cut and later used as the plot premise for the 1973 Ossman solo album How Time Flys.
Harold Hiphugger
editPortrayed by David Ossman. First appearance on Everything You Know Is Wrong as a television news reporter partnered with Ray Hamberger on the Channel 6 "Where It's At" news team. Appeared on Give Me Immortality or Give Me Death with Hamberger as Radio Now news reporters; also appeared in the show Radio Now Live.
