Ulsoor

edit

Also known as Halasuru, it is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Bangalore. It is located East of the heart of Bangalore. Ulsoor neighbors many well-known areas such as MG Road, Richmond Town, Sivanchetti Gardens, and Indiranagar.

History

edit

Ulsoor has seen many dynasties and rulers over time. It's earliest dynasties date back to Hyder Ali's zaagir which then passed onto what was then Mysore State's Wodeyars. Much after the transfer of the area to Tipu Sultan, the British Empire began. This caused the release of the land into the hands of the Wodeyars. After a mutual understanding of the ownership of the neighborhood, the British created a Catonment, creating a settlement around the area. This Cantonment Railway Station still stands today.

Demographic

edit

The neighborhood currently consists mostly of a demographic of Tamil and Kannada-speaking citizens.
