Plantersville is an unincorporated community in Grimes County, Texas, United States, at the junction of State Highway 105, Farm Road 1774, and the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in southeast Grimes County. Plantersville lies in the Central Time Zone. The zip code is 77363 and the area code is (936). The population was 212 at the 2000 census. Settled in the 1830s, the town has since grown due to the establishment of the Texas Renaissance Festival.

Geography

Plantersville is located at 30°19'35" N -95°51'26" W (30.332831,-95.862022).[1] The majority is a dense forest, however the Dyer Mill fire that occurred in the summer of 2011 decreased the forest area. The elevation is 350 feet (106.68 m) above sea level.[2] In the fall of 1930, at 4:00 pm on September afternoon, a meteorite that weighed 2085 g impacted Plantersville.[3]

Texas Renaissance Festival entrance

Since 1974, Plantersville has been home to the Texas Renaissance Festival, an annual event which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Over 675,000 visitors were recorded in 2016.[4]

Camp Kappe is also in Plantersville. It’s a youth retreat of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

Bernhardt Winery is not only a winery; it also has a loft and provides live entertainment occasionally.

The Plantersville Crawfish Festival is held at the Town Hall. This year will be the 6th year.

As a nice, relaxing, family-friendly place, there is Jollisant Farms. Here, people pick vegetables and/or fruit. There is also a little store, playground, picnic area and available exclusively to the fall season is a corn maze and pumpkin patch.

TRF Rescue is a rescue dedicated to donkeys, mules, and horses located at 9977 County Road 302 Plantersville, TX 77363.
