Muccino has directed 13 films and is best known for The Pursuit of Happyness (2006), his first American film which earned an Oscar Nominated performance by actor Will Smith. He has been nominated for several awards including the David di Donatello Award for Best Director in 2001 for his film The Last Kiss.
