Phil English
editPhil English is the head coach of the Eisenhower Track and Field team, known affectionately as "Mister" by his athletes and students. He has been coaching track and field for 28 years, 7 at Carroll HS and 21 at Eisenhower. He started running competitively in Ireland at the age of 14. In 1971 he was the Irish School's National Steeplechase Champion, and again in 1974. In 1974, Mister attended Washington State University on a full ride athletic scholarship. [1]
Mister was named the National High School Girls Coach of the Year in 2001, and for good reason. He has coached his girls teams to 7 Cross Country State Championships, and 2 for the Boys teams. The girls track team of 2000 won the State Championship under his tutelage. [2]He has also led his teams to many District, Regional, State, and even National meets, with the most memorable being the 2004 Nike Team Nationals, where the Eisenhower Boys Team placed 9th in the nation.[3]
Mister is also a well loved teacher at Eisenhower High School, teaching both Honors Biology and Anatomy. His quick wit, great sense of humor, and sometimes short temper lead to an always interesting class. [4][neutrality is disputed]
